What We Install on North Texas Pools

Equipment does not last forever, and a Texas summer makes sure of it. Once a part is past saving, a new one installed right costs less over its life than patching the old one again.

Every install starts with your pool, not a catalog. We look at the pool size, the plumbing, the electrical and what is already on the pad. Then we recommend gear that fits, plumb it in, wire it and set it up before we leave.

Not sure whether you need a repair or a replacement? Start with pool repairs. If the part can be saved, that is where we will save it.

Pool Pump Installation

An old single speed pump runs flat out every minute it is on. A variable speed pump can run slower for most of the day, and the U.S. Department of Energy explains the savings in its guide to choosing an efficient pool pump.

We install standard and variable speed pumps, sized to your plumbing and your filter. Then we set the run schedule so the water turns over without wasting power.

If your pump only has a bad seal or a noisy bearing, that may be a pool pump repair instead. See our pool pump installation page for replacement options.

Pool Heater Installation

A heater lets you swim earlier in spring and later into fall. The right one depends on how you use the pool.

We install gas heaters, electric heaters and heat pumps. Gas heats fast. A heat pump costs less to run but slows down when the air turns cold. Before we pick one, we look at your pool size, how quickly you want it warm and what fuel or power the pad already has.

North Texas tap water carries calcium, and scale is hard on a heat exchanger, so balanced water protects the new unit. See our pool heater installation page for more.

Pool Light Installation

A dead pool light makes the pool harder to use after dark and harder to see into. LED lights last longer and use less power than the old incandescent bulbs.

We install LED pool lights, color changing lights and replacement fixtures. When the fixture or the wiring has failed, we handle the pool light repair too.

See our pool light installation page for light options.

Pool Filter Installation

A filter that is too small for the pool, or a tank that has cracked, cannot keep the water clear no matter how often you clean it.

We install cartridge, sand and DE filters, matched to your pool size and your pump flow. If the filter only needs a cleaning, that is filter cleaning, and a leaking valve is usually a pool filter repair.

See our pool filter installation page for filter types.

Why North Texas Homeowners Choose Southern Pool + Outdoors

We work on these pools every week, so we see how equipment holds up through a North Texas summer. That shapes what we recommend. We would rather install a pump that runs quietly for years than sell you the biggest one on the shelf.

You get a straight quote, a clean install and a pad you can understand. We are licensed and insured, and if the new gear needs attention later, you call the same team that put it in.

Pool Equipment Installation Questions From North Texas Homeowners

The questions we get asked most, answered straight. If yours is not here, call (214) 922-1914 and ask.

Replace just the motor when the rest of the pump is still sound, with no cracks in the housing, lid or basket. If an old single speed pump has burned out its motor, replacing the whole pump with a variable speed model usually makes more sense. A new motor on an old pump still runs at full power every day.

You can if you're comfortable with PVC plumbing and pump wiring, but most homeowners shouldn't try. A wiring mistake can burn up a new motor on the first start. A bad glue joint on the suction side can leak air for months. We'd rather see it done once and done right.

Buy the variable speed pump if you plan to keep the pool more than a couple of years. A cheap single speed costs less today, but it runs flat out every minute it's on, and the power bill eats the savings. Running slower for longer moves the same water for far less electricity.

Yes, most existing pools can take a heater. It needs room on the equipment pad, a gas line or the right electrical service, and plumbing after the filter. We check all three before we quote, because running a new gas line is often the biggest part of the job.

It depends on how you swim. A gas heater warms the water fast, so it suits weekend swimmers and anyone who wants the spa hot within the hour. A heat pump costs less to run and handles spring through fall well. On cold nights it slows down, so it fits steady, longer season heating best.

No, you usually don't have to drain the pool to replace a light. Most pool lights sit in a niche with extra cord coiled behind them, so the fixture lifts up onto the deck and gets worked on dry. Draining only comes into it when the cord is too short or the niche is damaged.

Sometimes just the bulb works, but often the whole fixture has to go. An older fixture can take an LED replacement bulb if it's in good shape. A cracked lens, a leaking gasket or water inside the housing means a new fixture. We check the niche and the cord before we recommend either one.

A filter tank often lasts many years, but the parts inside wear out sooner. Cartridges need replacing every few years, sand needs changing, and DE grids tear with age. Heat and hard water shorten all of it, which is why we look inside the filter during every filter cleaning.

A cartridge filter catches finer dirt and needs no backwashing, so it saves water. A sand filter costs less up front and is simple to run, though it lets smaller particles through. Plenty of pros lean toward cartridge for backyard pools. Still, if your sand filter works, there's no reason to rip it out.

Not unless it's all failing. Replace what's broken and plan the rest so the new pieces work together. The exception is a pad where the pump, filter and heater are all old and the plumbing needs redoing anyway. Doing that in one visit saves labor. Anything that can still be saved goes to pool repairs first.
