Some pool jobs fall outside a regular cleaning visit. Southern Pool + Outdoors handles those specialty services across North Texas. That covers acid washes, green to clean recoveries, automation, salt systems and sand changes. Call (214) 922-1914.
These are the jobs that fix a problem a weekly visit cannot. Think of a stained pool or a green pool. Or a salt cell that stopped making chlorine, sand that quit filtering, or an old timer you still set by hand.
Each job starts with a look at the pool and the equipment. That way we fix the cause, not just the symptom. If the root problem is a broken pump or heater, that goes to pool repairs. If the pool just needs regular care afterward, our pool cleaning service picks it up.
Stains, algae marks and calcium scale can set into plaster until brushing does nothing. An acid wash strips a thin layer off the surface and brings back a brighter finish.
We drain the pool, wash the plaster, neutralize it and refill. It takes a little of the surface with it every time, so we only recommend it when the stains will not come out any other way.
See our acid wash page for what the job involves.
Once the chlorine runs out, a North Texas summer can turn a clear pool green in a few days. Algae makes the water unsafe to swim in, and the CDC explains why chlorine levels matter.
We bring the pool back with chemicals, heavy brushing and filter cleaning. Then we keep at it until the water is clear and the chemistry holds. If the pump or filter caused the problem, we fix that first, or the pool goes green again.
See our green to clean page for how a recovery works.
Pool automation lets you run the pump, lights, heater and water features from your phone or a control panel instead of walking out to the pad.
We install and set up automation systems. We also handle automation repair when a controller, actuator or timer stops doing its job. Then we set the schedules so the pump runs when it should and the heater only fires when you want it.
See our pool automation page for system options.
A salt system makes chlorine from salt in the water, so you stop hauling jugs and the water feels softer.
We install salt systems and clean salt cells. We also keep the salt level and chemistry where the cell needs them. North Texas tap water carries calcium, and scale on the cell is the usual reason chlorine output drops.
See our salt systems page for installs and service.
Filter sand wears smooth over the years. Once the grains round off, dirt slips through and the water stays cloudy no matter how long the pump runs.
We empty the old sand and check the laterals while the tank is open. Then we refill with fresh filter sand and start the system back up. If a lateral is cracked, that becomes a pool filter repair.
See our sand changes page for when it is time.
We clean and repair pools every week, so we see what causes a stain, a green pool or a scaled salt cell. That is why every specialty job starts with the cause. A pool we acid wash should stay bright, and a pool we bring back from green should stay clear.
You get a straight quote before we start and a clear picture of what the pool needs afterward.
Specialty jobs are one piece of it. Here is the rest of what we handle.
Weekly visits, filter cleaning, spa cleaning, tile cleaning and pool inspections, so the water stays clear and the equipment gets checked every week.
Pump, filter, heater and spa repair, so the water moves, heats and filters the way it should.
New pumps, filters, heaters and lights, sized for your pool and installed so circulation stays strong and the power bill stays sane.
One company for the whole pool: weekly cleaning, repairs, equipment installs and remodeling across North Texas.
HOAs, hotels, apartments and public pools count on our commercial pool services to stay clean and open for their swimmers.
New finishes, tile, coping, decking and water features for a pool that looks tired even when the water is clean.
The questions we get asked most, answered straight. If yours is not here, call (214) 922-1914 and ask.
An acid wash strips a thin layer off the plaster to remove stains, algae marks and calcium scale. A dull or stained pool comes out brighter without a full replaster. It does take a little surface each time, so it's a fix you use now and then, not every year.
Acid wash it if the plaster is sound and only stained. Replaster it if the surface is rough, thin, chipping or worn through in spots, because an acid wash only makes thin plaster thinner. Not sure which you have? We'll look at the surface before quoting an acid wash or a replaster.
Most green pools clear in a few days to about a week. A light green pool with working equipment can turn in two or three days. A dark pool full of leaves takes longer and needs more filter cleaning. Either way, the water has to hold chlorine overnight before we call it done.
No, don't swim in a green pool. Algae means the chlorine has run out, so germs that chlorine normally kills can grow. Cloudy water also hides anyone who slips under. Stay out until the water is clear and the chlorine level holds.
Usually there wasn't enough chlorine for long enough, or the filter can't keep up. Algae burns through one dose of shock in hours, and a dirty filter leaves the water cloudy. High stabilizer, the CYA on your test strip, also slows chlorine down. A water test tells you which one it is, and our green to clean service handles all three.
For most families, yes. A salt system makes chlorine for you, so the level stays steadier and you stop buying and storing jugs. The trade off is the cost of the system, a new salt cell every few years, and watching for scale, which North Texas tap water brings in.
Most salt cells last a few years, often somewhere around three to five. Scale and a high output setting wear them out faster. Cleaning the cell when it scales up and keeping salt where the maker wants it are the two things that stretch its life. Our salt systems service covers both.
Pool automation means a control system runs your pump, lights, heater and other equipment on schedules you set. You change things from a phone app or a panel instead of walking out to the pad and flipping switches.
It can wait if money is tight. A variable speed pump with its own schedule covers the basics. Automation earns its keep once you have a heater, spa, lights or water features to manage, because it ties them together. Switching from pool to spa becomes one button instead of a trip to the valves.
Every few years for most pools, often around five, and sooner if the water stays cloudy with a clean filter. Sand wears smooth and stops trapping fine dirt. If the pressure barely rises between backwashes, the sand probably isn't catching much anymore, and a sand change is due.
